The legendary group, Modest Mouse, performed their 25th Anniversary show in Dallas last Wednesday. “The Lonesome Crowded West” Tour highlights some of the band’s most iconic songs from their 1997 album while paired with a few of their top hits. Their eclectic sounds and nostalgic presence brought in a wide range of crowd variety, making South Side Ballroom transform into an all-inclusive community for the evening.

Modest Mouse is most recognized by their song, “Float On,” featured on their album, “Good News For People Who Love Bad News” (2004). Similarly to most of the band’s music, the lyrics approach negative situations in the world from an optimistic perspective, reminding people “we’ll all float on, ok.” Alternatively, you may have heard of the band from their songs “Dashboard,” “Dramamine,” or “The World At Large.” In combination with “Float On,” these four songs alone have been streamed over 483,090,057 times on Spotify.

If you haven’t knowingly been listening to Modest Mouse, there is a high chance you’ve accidentally stumbled across their work. The group’s music appears in over 34 shows and movies, including titles like “One Tree Hill” and “Superstore.”

Attending this show was heartwarming and sentimental to my childhood. It was like going back in time to listen to one of the most influential artists of my youth. If you’ve yet to stream “The Lonesome Crowded West,” I highly recommend doing so. You definitely don’t want to miss out on this classic era of alternative rock music!
