Fitz & The Tantrums brought their new album, Let Yourself Free, to The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. They kicked off the show with “Sway”, an energetic and quirky single off their new album. The crowd was truly letting themselves free to the sweet summer melody and dancing along with Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs.
Noelle Scaggs’ energy was mesmerizing and contagious from the moment she entered the room. Her effortless dancing and stage presence intoxicated the crowd with a certain spark. Michael Fitzpatrick matched her energy with his vibrant personality and spirit. In every song they sang together, you could feel the euphoria they exuded. James King blew the crowd away during his saxophone solo, while Joseph Karnes and Jeremy Ruzumna brought their own pieces to the complex music story the band sought to develop.
Phone flashlights went up for “I Just Wanna Shine”, one of the band’s most popular songs. The crowd was singing and swaying along to the uplifting and inspirational song. Towards the show’s end, Michael Fitzpatrick shared a sentimental story about his musical journey. He was inspired and motivated young creatives in the crowd to follow their passions and persevere – even when you are met with failure. The band ended the night with their lead single, “HandClap” off their self-titled album. The sound of unison clapping was heard and suddenly the night came to an end.
If I could describe their show in one word, it would be electric. You could feel the electricity pulsing through the room from the minute Fitz & The Tantrum came on until after they had left. Adults, teenagers, and children alike were dancing and jumping like absolutely nobody was watching. Seeing so many people from different demographics come together to enjoy an eccentric set and appreciate the art that is “Let Yourself Free” was a beautiful sight.
