Sun Room: The Soundtrack to Your Best Beach Days

Bookmarked post

Picture this: it’s mid-July and you are headed to the beach with some of your closest friends, drinking Yerba Mates and blasting the radio with the windows down. The sun is bright and the smell of sea salt wafts through the air. You might have no money and no plan for the day – but the energy is too invigorating to beat. Sun Room, an indie-surf–rock band from Southern California, was immediately able to completely immerse you in this atmosphere with their infectious energy and feel-good set.

The group composed of Luke Asgian (lead vocals and guitar), Ashton Minnich (guitar), Max Pinamonti (bass) and Gibby Anderson (drums), took to the stage to spread the sound of fun last week in San Francisco. With their skater-surfer aura, the band began their set with “Summer’s Here” off their first EP Sol Del Sur. The song served as a perfect opener as it felt exactly like the beginning of summer and similarly, was the start of their incredible show.

They continued onwards playing songs such as“Crashed My Bike”, which was a crowd-favorite and “Cadilac” off their newest EP Outta Their Minds. I caught myself smiling and bouncing to the lively melodies and envisioning myself driving down the coast without a care in the world. The crowd was feeding off of the band’s intense energy and was buzzing after each song. Sun Room’s set felt entirely too short; I felt myself yearning for a taste of more. It felt reminiscent of the feeling at the end of summer time, craving a sense of a little more freedom and bliss.

In my opinion, Sun Room’s discography perfectly embodies what it feels like to be a 20-something spending your summer in a beach town on the west coast. The feeling of living your best life was encapsulated on “Fun” and the warmth of sweet summer love was felt on “Sunset Garage”. It was inspiring to see a group so in love with their sound and their roots. As someone who was born and raised on the west coast, Sun Room’s songs feel like home to me, and I can recognize how they can be welcoming to others craving that warmth as well.

Luke, Ashton, Max and Gibby all have such warm and easy-going personalities; it’s easy to picture them as your local band who play backyard shows for their community. It was incredible to see them carry that same intimacy to a larger venue filled with friends, family and strangers alike. I can’t wait to see what Sun Room does next as it is clear to see they are just getting started! I would highly recommend seeing Sun Room live and experiencing a true Californian summer through their music.

Show Date: 04.03.23 | San Francisco, CA @ The Regency Ballroom
