Surf Trash Brings Down Under To Denver: A Night of Sun-Soaked Joy and Surf Rock Music

3 Mins read

As the sun sets in Denver, Colorado, a unique musical experience awaits within the walls of Lost Lake Lounge. The air crackled with excitement as the Australian natives, Surf Trash, took center stage, as a part of their journey across North America. With each strum of the guitar and every heartfelt lyric, they bridge the miles between continents, bringing a taste of Down Under to eager listeners.

The evening ignited with an electrifying burst as the band launched into their spirited anthem, ‘All My Problems,’ captivating the audience from the very first strum of the guitar. True to their name, Surf Trash embodies the sun-soaked joy and irresistible allure of surf rock music in every riff and rhythm. It felt as though summer had arrived early, whisking us away from the mountainous landscapes of Colorado straight to the sun-kissed shores of a distant beach.

Surf Trash are a four-piece Alt-Rock band composed of Andrew Scott on drums and lead vocals, Nick Scott on bass & Lachlan Jackson and Patrick Russell on the guitar. As they graced Colorado’s stage for the very first time, their enthusiasm was palpable, echoing through the venue as they shared their excitement. They mentioned how they didn’t get the opportunity last time they were in the States and were ecstatic that they could share their music now.

There’s an undeniable charm to intimate venues, where the barrier between artist and audience dissolves, fostering a sense of closeness and connection. During Surf Trash’s set, the opening band, Parrotfish, epitomized this spirit, blending seamlessly into the crowd, their energy infectious as they danced and cheered alongside fellow fans. Surf Trash themselves extended a warm invitation to the crowd, encouraging everyone to join them for a drink or a chat after the set. It truly felt like being among friends or distant relatives, their inviting energy was so wholesome to witness.

Amidst the pulsating beats and captivating melodies, the crowd seized every moment to mosh and dance, their energy palpable as bodies swayed and spirits soared. Even those who weren’t fans before, would become fans in the moment and join everyone in dancing their hearts out alongside everyone else. It’s times like these where I find myself appreciating the way live music brings people together to experience a unique show and carry those memories forever. As someone who often goes to shows solo, I usually can feel out the environment pretty well and seek out others to connect with during the night. Not only was I able to befriend others in the crowd, but I even had the opportunity to talk to and connect with a few members of the opening band, deepening the sense of community that makes live music so special.

The band ended with their buoyant and nostalgic song ‘Friends’, a fitting choice that encapsulated the sense of camaraderie and kinship that had developed the room throughout the evening. In a collective surge of energy, the mosh pit expanded, engulfing the majority of the audience as we bounced and swayed together, bound by shared joy and a mutual love for the music. With infectious smiles and foreheads glistening with sweat, it was a moment of pure euphoria—a testament to the power of music to forge connections and create unforgettable experiences.
