The Story So Far Rock The Salt Shed in Chicago on Fall Tour

The Story So Far made their long-awaited return to Chicago this past week, headlining a sold-out show at The Salt Shed Fairgrounds that felt less like a tour stop and more like a homecoming. Joined by Neck Deep, Origami Angel, and Pain of Truth, the lineup delivered a dynamic, high-energy night that ran the full emotional spectrum—and reminded fans why The Story So Far remains such a vital force in the pop-punk scene.

The Story So Far rocked Chicago’s The Salt Shed on their fall tour, mixing new songs and fan favorites in an unforgettable live show.

As soon as the band walked on stage, the crowd erupted. Without a word, they launched into “Big Blind,” the opener from their latest record I Want to Disappear. From there, it was a seamless dive into “Roam” and “The Glass”—two staples that immediately turned the venue into a sea of movement. Starting with something fresh, then snapping back to fan favorites, set the tone for the rest of the night: this wasn’t just a showcase of new material, it was a celebration of everything they’ve built.

The photo pit was nearly impossible to navigate—crowd surfers poured over the barricade one after another, as if the floor had no gravity. The audience matched the band’s intensity from the jump, and that pulse never let up.

“It feels good to be back in Chicago,” said frontman Parker Cannon during one of the few moments he addressed the crowd. “The best place in the world for live music.” And the band treated it that way, delivering a set that spanned every era of their discography, with a spotlight on I Want to Disappear. While the album got its due last year on a tour with Superheaven, this run feels like a follow-up victory lap—almost a one-year anniversary party, with some added nostalgia thrown in.

The Story So Far isn’t known for heavy crowd interaction, and that held true here. Aside from the occasional thank-you from Cannon, the focus stayed on the music. But when he did speak, it mattered. Before breaking into “If I Fall,” he mentioned, “We took this one off the setlist for a while, but we put it back in.” A simple note, but one that landed with longtime fans who couldn’t remember the last time they heard it live, including myself.

The band’s recent live album, I Want to Disappear In The USA, also got a brief mention, acting as a subtle reminder that this current chapter of The Story So Far isn’t over—it’s still unfolding in real time.

One of the most striking parts of the show was the lighting production. Easily the most refined setup the band has brought on tour, the visuals were tailored to each song’s mood. It added an unexpected layer of depth, subtly enhancing the emotion without pulling focus from the performance itself.

About halfway through the set, things kicked into a different gear. “Heavy Gloom” brought the loudest crowd response of the night. That energy carried into a string of older tracks, a stretch that felt as chaotic and unfiltered as the band’s early days. Back in the pit, it was pure survival mode—but fans wouldn’t have it any other way.

They ended their main set with “Clairvoyant,” a softer, more reflective moment that’s earned its place as a fan favorite since 2013. As the band walked off, chants for one more song echoed through the open air—cutting through the night sky with the same intensity that had carried the entire set. Without much delay, they returned for a final encore, closing with “Quicksand.” The crowd erupted one last time, as if the past hour of nonstop movement hadn’t worn them down at all. It was a final burst of chaos and catharsis, a fitting end to a night that felt as alive as ever.

It’s rare for a band this deep into their career to still feel this vital. But The Story So Far’s night at The Salt Shed was proof that they’re not just coasting—they’re still pushing, still connecting, and still filling every room they walk into with the kind of energy that can’t be faked.
