The infamous Capitol Hill Block Party was a weekend to remember! Seattle’s largest party in the streets had an absolutely stellar lineup of some of our favorite indie, pop and rock artists.
Friday was nothing shy of a jam-packed (and sold out) Pink Pony Club crowd with over 10,000 attendees. Chappell Roan’s set was one for the books, showcasing her Seattle skater girl outfit, complete with elbow bandages and baggy denim. Her 80’s synth pop sound and unapologetically queer lyrics resonated deeply in the hearts of Seattleites, so much so that thousands of people filled the streets outside the block party and spilled into the neighboring gas stations and parking lots, just to catch a glimpse of the queen herself.
The most emotional moment of the evening was seeing Chappell bring out her favorite drag queen, Sasha Colby, in reference to her April 2024 Coachella speech (“I’m your favorite artist’s favorite artist, I’m your dream girl’s dream girl”).
I’m your favorite artist’s favorite artist, I’m your dream girl’s dream girl
Sasha and Chappell led the 10,000+ sparkle-clad audience members in the HOT-TO-GO dance, the Gen-Z version of the YMCA. History was witnessed, and this was absolutely an evening Seattle will remember for decades to come.
Other memorable moments on Friday included headliner Remi Wolf, who was a fill-in for Kim Petras who had to drop due to health reasons. Following her 2022 set at CHBP, it was great to see her soulful stage presence and witty discography live.
As the weekend progressed, the vibes stayed high and the weather warm. Elderbrook brought the eccentric dance music Saturday evening, followed by the groovy and hypnotic Still Woozy. Closing out the Coke Studio stage on Saturday was the quirky hip-hop duo Flyana Boss, known most famously for their viral hit “You Wish”.
Sunday highlights included the charming female rock band The Beaches, edgy and sultry COBRAH, and a funky dance set by Kaytranada. The weekend also featured nearly 100 other outstanding musical acts, both native to Seattle and internationally. One in particular that stood out was by the band THEM, a four piece female rock band local to West Seattle, with relatable lyrics and a girl-next-door spirit.
Seeing so many music fans fill the streets of the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle was unforgettable and something fans will buzz about for years to come. We can’t wait to experience CHBP again next … who are you hoping for on the lineup?!
